Good morning,
I hope everyone has survived icepocalypse! Hopefully, these arctic temperatures are about over. Fortunately, we had very few accidents reported with this last round of winter weather.
This has been a busy week despite the cold weather. Deputies served one search warrant and recovered a substantial number of various illegal drugs. We have several active investigations into drug activity in our county. Deputies and I cleared a house yesterday in Sparkman, where a large number of drugs were recovered, along with a suspect who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for child molestation. To begin with, this suspect gave deputies a false name and date of birth, and we were able to ascertain his true identity.
We had the Department of Corrections visit this week to drug test all of our 309s, and I'm happy to report that all were negative. These inmates are here to assist with everything from cooking and cleaning to general maintenance around the facility, which saves the county a lot of money each year. With good behavior, these inmates will transition back into the free world with good behavior. It is a win-win for everyone.
Due to the cold temperatures, Kerry Simmons and his crew have not done much this week. We hope to return to a regular trash-picking schedule next week.
