Good morning,
We've had another busy week at the Sheriff's Office. Much of our time this week has been spent preparing for upcoming trials. I know I discuss recent arrests every week, but most people never realize how much time is spent preparing for trials or plea days. If a drug or DWI arrest is made, we usually have to transport drugs to the crime lab for analysis. After these illegal items are analyzed, we need the experts from the crime lab to attend the trials and testify. I would not want to guess the time spent by deputies after the initial arrests are made. You have the required reports made by deputies, and the chain of custody has to be maintained to ensure the integrity of the evidence is never compromised between the crime lab and the actual trial date. These are crucial to getting a conviction at trial. These things are essential to me as the Sheriff here. We cannot get out here and do all this hard work only to lose a case because of a minor technicality. Once again, this is where I want to brag about all my deputies who work hard, make good solid cases, and secure convictions.
Kerry Simmons and his crew have been hard at it again this week. They have mainly focused on Highway 9 and surrounding roads. As always, they're doing a great job. Cleaning up litter is a never-ending task.
Felony Friday:
Pyle, Devon of Bearden; Parole Violation
Meyer, Laura of Bearden; ADC committed
Nix, Carl of Hot Springs; Driving While Intoxicated
Gipson, Rickey of Sparkman; ADC committed
Walker, Dexter of Fordyce; Contempt Failure to Pay
Washington, Shannon of El Dorado; Driving Under the Influence, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Control, Speeding and Careless Prohibited Driving
Williams, Juston of Arkadelphia; Contempt Failure to Pay
I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend.
Stay safe, and God Bless you.
Sheriff Mike Knoedl
