SHERIFF MIKE KNOEDL - WEEKLY UPDATE 05/16/2025

Good morning,

I want to start the week by recognizing National Police Week. This week culminates in Washington, D.C., with the names of fallen officers placed on the memorial wall.

Unfortunately, two officers who worked with me have paid that ultimate sacrifice. I have told people that there is NOTHING worse than having to make that notification to the spouse and kids when this happens. In today's culture, it saddens me that some disrespect our law enforcement officers so much. Are there bad police officers out there? Absolutely! There are bad people in every position in life. I have found, after a 40-year career, that all good cops hate bad cops for the most part. I would never defend a bad law enforcement officer, and have publicly recognized some of those bad apples. However, take the time to remember those brave men and women who put their lives on the line each day to make sure you are safe. I frequently tell people they are out there and willing to die for people they may not know. So, the next time you see one of these men and women in uniform, please take a second to tell them thank you!

Next, I want to recognize and highlight one of my employees. Mrs. Kathren Shuler is our jail administrator here at the detention facility. You may know her by her nickname, "Tuffy." This nickname is very fitting for her! This lady keeps this facility running at all times and works countless hours to ensure the safety of inmates and her employees. I have never heard her complain once since I became Dallas County Sheriff. She frequently works weekends, filling in when needed. If you think you may have a tough job, I encourage you to follow her for a day here at the jail. We appreciate her dedication and commitment to serving the citizens of Dallas County.

Mr. Kerry Simmons and his crew have been busy this week. They have worked on Dallas 126, 101, 113, and Hwy 273. They have also worked on Dallas 132 and 7 miles of Hwy 229. This week's good weather has enabled them to clean up many roadways around Dallas County.

The National Click It or Ticket program is about to begin. It will run from May 19 through June 1 and is designed to remind motorists to always wear seatbelts.

Our deputies recovered a stolen trailer that had gone missing in Colorado. Also, deputies arrested 5 individuals at a shop in Fordyce who are suspected of running drugs out of the business.
