Good afternoon,
I hope everyone is doing well and had a good week.
It has been another busy week at the Sheriff's Office. We have completed several DWI checkpoints this last week. These checkpoints have resulted in two DWI's and several drug arrests. We understand these checkpoints can inconvenience legal drivers sometimes, but the mission is to protect the public from impaired drivers. Please be patient with law enforcement as they conduct business to keep us safe. We assisted in working on a severe accident that is alcohol-related in Sparkman last weekend. A medical helicopter was dispatched to transport the suspect.
The National Memorial Day mobilization will continue through the holiday weekend. Remember, drive sober or get pulled over!
We had circuit court this week with a large docket. You can see some of the results from court on the Felony Friday list. Also, a Zoom hearing was held on the plea and arraignment of Joey Posey, the suspect in the Mad Butcher mass shooting. Many of the associated victims were in attendance for this hearing. I will keep everyone apprised of the judicial process as it moves along. Please keep everyone affected by this incident in your thoughts and prayers. #FordyceStrong

Mr. Rucker and his crew continue to work hard to serve this county. They started the week working in the courtroom to prepare for this week's hearings. They worked at our radio tower completing routine maintenance to install a fence around the new building housing our radio equipment. Trash pickup included Highway 79 to the Sonic to Fourth Street. County roads 101,121,113,119 and Highway 8 to the intersection of Highway 9. They have also cleaned the Fordyce Redbug football field after last night's game. I always take the opportunity to brag and be positive about our people. Mr. Rucker has said there seems to be less trash discarded these days than in the past. We have a long way to go but keep doing better to keep our county clean!
