SHERIFF MIKE KNOEDL - WEEKLY UPDATE 10/3/2025

Good morning,

I want to mention the start of hunting season. While some of the major seasons have yet to open, they are upon us. My reasoning for bringing this up is twofold: first, we want to remind everyone to exercise safety at all times while out hunting. Each year, we experience preventable hunting-related accidents that could be easily avoided. Identify your target at all times! Number two, please make sure that all your hunting equipment is secured at all times. Each year, we have numerous break-ins at deer camps where guns, archery equipment, ATVs, and campers are stolen. When you leave to go home, please take these valuables with you!

We are currently completing several much-needed upgrades at the detention center. While this facility has served us well, it is approaching 30 years old. We have replaced the control panel in the guard tower with up-to-date locking systems, along with a new fire alarm system. The automatic gate entering the jail has also been replaced after the old one malfunctioned. I want to thank the Quorum Court for approving the funds that made these much-needed repairs possible.

I know it seems early, but I want to remind everyone that the annual shop with a cop program is approaching quickly. There is an account at Fordyce Bank & Trust where you can make a donation. This program enables us to take selected children on a shopping trip with their parents, who may not otherwise have sufficient funds to purchase Christmas gifts. These donations may be used to buy clothes or any other items that the children may need or want. I'll be sure to give you more information on how to apply to participate in the program. Any donations are welcome. I really appreciate any help you can provide.
