SHERIFF MIKE KNOEDL - WEEKLY UPDATE

Good morning,

We at Dallas County Sheriff's Department are wishing everyone a happy, safe Memorial Day weekend! Please remember those men and women in the armed forces who have served in order to protect our freedom. Continue to pray for them.

As everyone travels this upcoming weekend, please remember to buckle up and wear your life jackets if you will be celebrating on the water.

Another busy week here at the Sheriff's Department. We have been working closely with the Fordyce Police Department concerning the rape of a 13-year-old. I'm happy to report that the suspect has been arrested and is currently being held in our jail under a $250,000.00 bond. Special thanks to all of the investigators that worked on this difficult case to bring this person to justice.

We are currently working on several drug investigations this week. I will be reporting more on these at a later date.

I've always said I will report the bad and good things we're doing here. We had an incident early Tuesday morning where drugs were found in our jail. After a thorough investigation, we discovered the drugs came in from a female prisoner brought to us from Dumas. She had the drugs hidden on her person, dropped them in our sallyport, and they were picked up by an inmate. She has been charged with a class B felony for introducing contraband into our jail. Three of our inmates are facing felony charges as well. With that said, we conducted a complete shakedown of our trustee pods. No drugs were found but we discovered several policy violations. EVERYTHING was removed from these cells but their beds. Inmates have been working here the last three days spit-shining our facility. A new policy and procedure manual is in place for our detention center. Our new motto here now is if you can lean on something you can clean on something!

On to felony Friday now.

* Christopher Green - Possession of a controlled substance (Meth) Class C felony, Possession of drug paraphernalia, Class D Felony

* Carla Morgan - Introducing contraband into a detention facility, Class B Felony

* Cedrick Malone - Battery II, Class C felony

Mr. Rucker and his crew mowed grass here at the jail and he oversaw the cleanup around the jail. He and his crew are now being reimbursed by the Arkansas Highway Department for picking up trash along state highways. This will help pay for beans and cornbread. This program ultimately saves the taxpayers money while providing a valuable service to our county.

In closing, I want to recognize all of my staff this week from dispatchers, deputies, detention officers, and administrative assistants for the job they are doing. I can't say enough about the positive working relationship we have with Fordyce Police Department now. We are working together each day to serve all of our constituents!

I ask again that you pray for all of these employees that are in harm's way to make sure the county stays safe.

Remember, the "click it or ticket" program will be in force this weekend.

God Bless,

Sheriff Mike Knoed
