Good morning,
I'm happy to report that on Wednesday, we held our third annual Shop with A Cop at the Fordyce Walmart. We had 39 kids participate this year, which is a new record. This is a worthy program that I have been involved in for over 20 years. I want to personally thank everyone who donated to this program for making it a huge success. You know who you are. Each child could spend $150.00 to select anything they wanted or needed for Christmas. A special shoutout to the Fordyce Police Department, County Judge Chris Stanfield, the Walmart manager, and the associates who assisted the kids with their shopping. As always, I have to recognize all of my crew for making this event happen and go smoothly. I want to thank Penny McClain for tracking donations and ensuring the kids are signed up. I've never seen so many smiles yesterday as the kids picked out what they wanted. (See Attached Pictures)
Sergeant Jordan Ables, along with Deputy Tim Wofford, has been investigating a case involving a former city of Sparkman employee. After a lengthy investigation, Michelle Berry has been charged with Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card. She allegedly used the credit card to make purchases totaling over $43,000.00. She has been arrested and is awaiting a first appearance, at which a bond will be set. I want to recognize both deputies for their hard work on this case. These cases are time-consuming because hundreds of financial records must be reviewed.
On Thursday morning, dispatch received a call in reference to a shooting at a residence off Fourth Street. Captain Keith Axsom, along with Fordyce Police Officer Andrew Sisson, traveled to Bearden after receiving information that the suspect was at a residence there. Search and arrest warrants were obtained, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The firearm used was recovered, and charges are pending against the suspect. The victim is expected to make a full recovery from the gunshot wound to the leg. This is a classic case of teamwork to close this case quickly and take another suspect and gun off the street. I want to thank Chief Greely from Bearden for assistance in this case as well.
You will see stepped-up law enforcement efforts across the county and state as the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign begins tonight and runs through January 1st. There will be sobriety checkpoints in Dallas County and across Arkansas to remove impaired drivers from our roads and highways. Please remind everyone again, if you are going to drink, please don't drive! Designate a driver or stay at home.
