Good morning,
I hope everyone has had a great week.
I want to begin by discussing the scams currently circulating. There is rarely a week that goes by when we are not contacted about someone being scammed. I want to caution everyone about these numerous scam artists and how they operate. They will begin by calling you and sounding very legitimate. At some point, they will request your personal information, including your Social Security number, checking account details, and credit card information. Please stop at this point and ask for a number to call them back. You can use any available search engine to find out about the entity contacting you. We have had people scammed by saying they were with the Sheriff's Office and needed to send money to avoid being arrested on a warrant. No law enforcement agency will contact you via phone about warrants or police business. Never go and get pre-loaded credit cards or wire money to someone you are not familiar with. Sadly, I have seen these people scam people out of anywhere from $200.00 to over $20,000. They tend to target older adults, who are most vulnerable. Everyone needs to keep a keen eye out for these people who primarily work overseas and cannot be tracked.
Several revocation warrants have been served this week on individuals who have failed to comply with the terms of their probation or parole. We work closely with the probation and parole officers here in Dallas County to ensure people are in compliance.
I want to remind everyone again about the public dumpsters located throughout Dallas County. We are currently installing cameras on select dumpsters. People continue to throw prohibited items in and around these dumpsters. We found couches, mattresses, and assorted lumber and plumbing material, which is not permitted. We are strictly enforcing this law, and if caught, you may face a fine of up to $ 1,000.00, along with community service.
We are currently accepting applications for detention officers at the Dallas County Sheriff's Office. Please come by and pick up an application from the front desk.
Mr. Simmons has been busy this week cleaning around dumpsters. He and his crew have picked up along state highways and county roads as well.
