Good morning,
My report is arriving a day early, as it's a holiday tomorrow. I want to wish everyone a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend. Let's not forget the Fourth of July is a symbol of freedom, democracy, and the sacrifices made to establish the United States.
We are actively conducting DWI Mobilization checkpoints around the county. These checkpoints will continue until July 6th. Expect to see a stepped-up law enforcement presence to curb drinking and driving. The subsequent mobilization will be effective from July 9 to 12. The focus will be on reducing drivers' speed on our highways and county roads. A majority of our accidents can be attributed to excessive speeds. Should you encounter law enforcement during these special operations, please know they are out trying to save lives and keep our county safe. Be patient and know they will do their routine checks and have you on your way as soon as possible. Please don't DRINK & DRIVE! We have issued 11 DWI tickets since the first of the year. It's much cheaper and safer to have a designated driver or stay where you are.
Two of my deputies have been in training this week, teaching the EVOC course. I am happy to announce we now have two certified instructors. Now you're wondering what EVOC is. It is a four-day class that instructs law enforcement on the safe operation of emergency vehicles during pursuits and emergency responses.
