Good morning,
Another busy week here at the sheriff's office. We started our week out by investigating several break-ins at deer camps. Yes, it's that time of year when people are showing up at their deer camps to discover that camps have been broken into and missing equipment. Deputy Tim Wofford is investigating and is in the process of obtaining warrants for a suspect in some of these break-ins. Some of the stolen items have been located at a pawn shop and should be returned to the rightful owner. I am advising people at deer camps or at their residences to strategically place game cameras around to deter thieves such as these. Also, please don't leave firearms inside camps for long periods of time. If you discover you have been a victim of a theft of any kind, be sure to get in touch with the sheriff's office immediately to report it. Every year, numerous side-by-sides, firearms, and other miscellaneous outdoor equipment are stolen in our county. Sometimes this is unavoidable, but a cheap game camera has assisted us in identifying suspects and eventually led to arrests.
I haven't reported in a while, but Kerry Simmons has been busy with our litter pickup around the county. He and his crew have had their hands full this week. Several highways and county roads have been cleaned up. It's a never-ending cycle. This leads me to ask everyone to properly discard their feed sacks during deer season. Inevitably, our state highways and county roads are littered with these sacks every year. Could you make sure these sacks are secured in your vehicle until you can properly dispose of them? The official kickoff of hunting season begins this weekend. Please be safe and make sure those deer stands are secure and ready for use before getting in them! Have a great weekend, enjoying the outdoors. Each year, we have several hunting accidents due to unsafe equipment.
